FAIRFIELD, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University Women's Soccer team fell to Robert Morris this afternoon by a tight score of 2-1. The team will wrap up the remainder of the season on the road as they will next face Yale on Wednesday Oct. 24 when the team travels to face Yale. Game-time is set for 7:00 p.m.
The Pioneeer's would be aggressive in the first half as they would fire off a total of 17 shots while holding the Colonials to just four. At one point in the first half from the minutes of 18:49 to 30:46, SHU would fire off eight shots before Robert Morris could attempt one. In the spree of shots attempted by SHU, Melanie DaSilva would tally two in that time span. But the Colonials would be the first to get on the board as at 32:28 Britt O'Connell would slip a shot passed the goalie to give the Colonials a 1-0 heading into the second half.
SHU would not back down as they would keep attempting shots but were each saved or went wide. Taylor Casale and Melanie DaSilva would be the duo firing off multiple shots early in the first as combined heading into the 54 minute mark the pair had five shots that were near misses in an attempt to tie the game up at one. But it would be the Colonials that would once again find the back of the net this time at 59:57 courtesy of Jane Schleicher to give the Colonials a 2-0 lead. The Pioneers would be able to tally a goal as Lindsay Savko would score off an assist by Maranda Gibbons at 66:04 to tighten the Robert Morris lead to 2-1. Both sides would attempt to increase the goal total but neither would succeed giving the Colonials the eventual 2-1 victory.
