Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 to CCSU in Defensive Battle

NEW BRITAIN, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University Women's Soccer Team fell to Central Connecticut State in a hard fought defensive battle that ended in a final score of just 1-0. The team returns to action on Friday, October 12 when the Pioneers host Wagner. Game-time is set for 2:00 p.m.

The game would be a tough defensive first half for both sides as neither team would be able to produce a goal in the first half. The Blue Devils edged SHU in the shots battle seven to one but senior goalie Nicole Sambuco would save all seven shots to halt CCSU from scoring in the half. Senior Alex Mesropyan would be the only Pioneer to tally a shot in the first half as she launched a shot at 30:13 but would be saved to keep the score 0-0.

Mesropyan would continue to attempt strong shots in the second as she began the half with a header off a corner kick by Lindsay Corallo but would just go wide keeping the game scoreless. It wouldn't be until 60:56 when CCSU would score the long goal in the game courtesy of Tess Atkinson to put the Blue Devils ahead 1-0. Lindsay Corallo would attempt one final shot at 89:24 but it would go wide making the final score 1-0 in favor of Central Connecticut.
