Evans and Norman Lead Pioneers Over Saint Francis U 81-56

Fairfield, Conn. (February 18, 2013)—Ericka Norman (Chino Hills, Calif.) posted her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 assists Monday night in the William H. Pitt Center as Sacred Heart Women's Basketball team topped Saint Francis U 81-56. Kiley Evans (Cazenovia, N.Y.) led the Pioneers,  lighting up the board with 23 points as Sacred Heart extended their streak to nine-straight wins. SHU improves to 18-7 on the season and 10-3 in conference with the win.

After exchanging possessions for the first minute and a half, Gabrielle Washington (Mesa, Ariz.) landed a triple, en route to her eighth 20-plus point performance of the season.  Her three kicked off a 9-0 Pioneer run before Rebecca Keegan put Saint Francis U on the board with a pair of free throws, which sparked a seven-point run for the Red Flash to bring them within two of SHU.

Nickia Gibbs knotted the score at 11-11 with a layup, but Washington quickly put SHU back on top. SFU's Alli Williams tied it again at 13 where the score stood for nearly three minutes. Blair Koniszewski (Vienna, Va.) finally broke the tie with a three at the 10-minute mark kicking off Sacred Heart's 11-2 run that helped them jump out to a 24-15 lead with 5:25 left in the half.

Washington landed a three to increase the Pioneers' lead to 21 points with 1:38 on the clock. The Red Flash added one more bucket before the halftime buzzer, sending them into the break trailing 41-22.

The teams exchanged points to start the second half, each scoring 11 points in the first four minutes. With eight minutes left in the game, Koniszewski kicked off a 10-point run with jumper just inside the arc. Sophomore Katie Shepard (Lone Tree, Colo.) capped off the run with a trey that just beat the shot clock buzzer to give Sacred Heart its largest lead of the game, 28 points.

Enjoli Bland (Queen Creek, Ariz.) tied her career high pulling down 12 boards.

Next weekend, the Pioneer host both in-state rivals. On Saturday, SHU will celebrate "Senior Day" against Quinnipiac and wrap up the homestand on Monday against CCSU.
