DAYTONA BEACH Fl.— The Sacred Heart University men's golf team fired a second round of 304 to move into fourth place after 36 holes at Northeast Conference men's golf championship. The Pioneers finished with the third best second round score of the day to make the biggest move of the day, up three spots on the team leaderboard.
Freshman Saptak Talwar continued his play inside the top-10 of the leaderboard finishing the day with a three-over 75 to sit sixth overall. After three bogeys to start the day, Talwar fired a birdie on the par-four fourth hole. Senior Matt Shubley bounced back from a rough round one to pace the Pioneers with a two-over 74. He fired three birdies to counter five bogeys in round two to sit tied for 19th overall.
Fellow Senior Connor Cunningham carded a seven-over 79 to sit tied for 19th overall as well. Junior Alex Manner registered a four-over 76 with 14 pars in round two to move into a tie for 22nd. Senior Tom D'Andrea finished with a second round of nine-over 81 to sit tied for 35th on the leaderboard.
CCSU remained in the overall lead after a 13-over 301 in round two putting up +16 through 36 holes. Robert Morris stayed put in second place at +25 after carding the low round of the day at 296. SHU sits just three strokes back of FDU for third at 44-over par.
SHU concludes the 2018 NEC Championship tomorrow morning.
