Last Time Out... SHU shot a season-high 61% from the field and 92% from the free throw line Thursday night in a 94-84 win at Bryant. The Pioneers also made a season-high 11 three-pointers. Sean Hoehn led all scorers with a career-high 31 points, leading five Pioneers in double figures. Kinnon LaRose added 19 points with five three-pointers. Joseph Lopez had 14 points and nine rebounds.
Race For The NEC Tournament... The eighth and final NEC Tournament berth will be decided on Saturday. For SHU to reach the tournament for a fourth consecutive season, the Pioneers need to win Saturday and also need Central Connecticut to lose to St. Francis Brooklyn.
Shooting Lights Out... SHU shot a season-high 61% from the field and 91.7% from the foul line in Thursday's win at Bryant. The Pioneers also made a season-high 11 three-pointers in scoring a season-high 94 points. It was only the sixth time in 30 games this season that SHU shot at least 50% from the field.
Hoehn Goes For 31... Junior guard Sean Hoehn scored a career-high 31 points in Thursday night's win at Bryant. Hoehn was 10-for-16 from the field, with four three-pointers, and a perfect 7-for-7 at the free throw line. After not having a 20-point game in his first 87 career appearances, Hoehn has had at least 20 points in three of his last four games. In his last eight games, Hoehn is averaging 18.5 points and 3.9 assists per game while shooting 48.5% from the field and 41.5% from three-point range.
High-Percentage Points Leading To High Field Goal Percentage... SHU has had at least 30 points in the paint in 17 of the last 20 games. The Pioneers had 44 of their 94 points come in the paint Thursday night at Bryant. SHU has shot at least 40% from the field in 13 of its last 14 games.
All-Time Vs. LIU Brooklyn... The Blackbirds lead the all-time series against the Pioneers 24-11. LIU Brooklyn has won four straight meetings against SHU, and eight of the last 10. The last 11 games between the Blackbirds and Pioneers have each been decided by less than 10 points.
Last Meeting... The Pioneers cut a 16-point LIU Brooklyn lead down to two with 7:14 to play Feb. 1 at the Pitt Center, but a 10-0 Blackbirds run put LIU Brooklyn up for good in a 69-60 loss for SHU. Freshman guard Alex Watson led the Pioneers in scoring, tying a career-high with 15 points. Joseph Lopez had his fourth double-digit rebound game in his last five with 11. Joel Hernandez led LIU Brooklyn, and all scorers, with 30 points.
Scouting LIU Brooklyn... The Blackbirds shot 60.9% from the field in the second half to break a 39-39 halftime lead against St. Francis Brooklyn Thursday night and win 81-76. Joel Hernandez led LIU Brooklyn with 23 points. Raiquan Clark had a double-double of 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Jashaun Agosto also had 18 points. The win snapped a three-game Blackbirds losing streak. Hernandez is the NEC's second-leading scorer at 20 points per game, with Clark sixth in the NEC in scoring at 17.1 points per game. As a team, LIU Brooklyn is second in the NEC in scoring at 77.5 points per game.
